Assess What Fuels and Drains You

A systematic approach to understanding your personal energy reserves and optimizing your daily life.

To effectively navigate your environments, you must first understand your own energy reserves. A personal energy audit involves tracking your daily activities to identify which interactions, tasks, and environments leave you feeling recharged, and which leave you depleted. This page provides practical frameworks for monitoring your mood and energy levels throughout the week.

Person taking notes on their daily energy levels

Once you have gathered this data, the next step is implementation. We offer strategies for reducing exposure to draining situations and intentionally scheduling activities that boost your baseline energy. By taking control of your daily inputs, you can maintain a more consistent, positive state of mind, allowing you to engage with the world on your own terms.

Track Your Day

For one full week, note your energy level (1–10) after each major activity or interaction. Use a notebook, app, or even sticky notes.

Identify Patterns

Review your notes. Which people, tasks, or environments consistently appear near your low-energy entries? Which ones appear near your high-energy moments?

Map Your Drains

List the top three situations that drain your energy the most. For each, write one realistic boundary or adjustment you could make.

Map Your Gains

List the top three activities that consistently restore you. Schedule at least one of these each day as a non-negotiable recovery anchor.

Implement & Review

Apply your new boundaries and scheduling changes for two weeks, then repeat the audit. You should see your baseline energy score trending upward.

Refine Continuously

Your energy map will shift with seasons, life changes, and new relationships. Revisit the audit every quarter to keep your personal energy strategy current.
